My Story:
Several years ago, I was misdiagnosed with multiple sclerosis; a year following that diagnosis my father passed away. A year after that, my marriage ended in divorce. The truth in Christian Nevell Bovee's words couldn’t be more pointed, “Tearless grief bleeds inwardly”. And my unwillingness to cry or listen to the truth, forced my physical body to cry elsewhere. So, I had to start the journey back to myself, a journey to live in alignment with my body, mind and soul. I had to learn how to heal inside and out.
My quest led me to talk therapy, physiotherapy, women’s groups, yoga, a Buddhist temple, reiki certification, embodied voice classes, trauma release exercise classes, mindfulness practice, and a music therapy internship. On my way back to myself I realized I had so much power within me to heal and now I have a responsibility to share this power with others so they can be active participants in their own healing and wellness.
People who have taken my workshop say it has them buzzing for the day and is a very powerful and meaningful experience. Private sessions are available! I work with you through meditation, call and response, tuning, somatic exercises, improvising harmonies, chanting, and reiki touch energy healing.
OVERVIEW:
In ancient times, knowledge was approached as a whole. Every aspect of knowledge was inter-connected. Mathematics, geometry, music, dance, visual art, sculpture, literature, spirituality and astrology were all different facets, or points of access to a single, wide-spread knowledge of the nature of things. So, in an effort to go back to this wisdom, I have created a healing workshop that combines multiple access points to healing: sound, movement, somatic exercises, reiki and chanting.
What is Sound Healing Therapy?
Sound healing therapy uses aspects of music to improve physical and emotional health. Sound healing may involve: listening to music, singing along to music, moving to the beat of music, meditating, or playing an instrument.
Healing with sound is believed to date back to ancient Greece, when music was used in an attempt to cure mental disorders. Throughout history, music has been used to boost morale in military troops, help people work faster and more productively, and even ward off evil spirits by chanting. More recently, research has linked music to a number of health benefits, from boosting immune function and lowering stress to improving the health of premature babies.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy healing with its roots in Japan. The word Reiki comes from the Japanese word (Rei) which means “Universal Life” and (Ki) which means “Energy”. Reiki is not affiliated with any particular religion or religious practice. Reiki dates back to the early 20th century.
A reiki practitioner channels energy into the patient by means of touch, to activate the natural healing processes of the patient's body and restore physical and emotional well-being. The reason I have chosen Reiki is because it is easily accessible, does not need any affiliation to a religion, and is a powerful adjunct therapy with sound healing and trauma release exercises
What is TRE® (Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises)?
TRE® is similar to Neurogenic Yoga and Fitzmaurice Tremorwork®. All three are therapies that combine postures, vocalization, and breathing exercises with the body’s natural, therapeutic shaking response that facilitate the release of physical and emotional stress, tension, and trauma. Often vibration begins in the legs and may spread throughout the entire body.
Musculoskeletal tremors are a phenomenon experienced before, during, or following stressful or traumatic events. When the body experiences trauma it shakes. A commonly experienced example of this, is the moment we hear of a great loss or the moment following a serious accident, the hands and body will shake/tremor. Another example is when a baby is under stress and crying we instinctively gently shake the baby to create a relaxation response.
Dr. David Berceli developed Tension and Trauma Releasing Exercises (TRE®), as an integrative neurophysiological approach to create self-induced therapeutic tremors to mechanically discharge physical tension, stress and trauma. It was initially developed for international use in high conflict zones and areas experiencing natural or man-made disasters. Designed as a self-directed somatic modality to be taught in group settings. The TRE® technique is easily learned, reproduced, and practiced.
Why the combination of these three modalities?
The combination of TRE®, Sound Healing and Reiki has transformative, empowering, and grounding effects. We will learn to take a whole health approach to our wellbeing. With sound healing we activate and tune into the energetic frequency of our blockages. We then release these blockages, trauma, and tension through gentle self-induced tremors; and finally restore, ground and heal ourselves with Reiki and a group vocal sound bath. These classes serve as a safe sanctuary to return to regularly and realign the mind, body and soul to return
